Mauro Campbell graduated in law from the Methodist University Center Bennett (Unibennett) in 1985. He began his career as a lawyer in Rio de Janeiro (1985–1986), subsequently taking on roles as legal advisor to the Amazon Energy Company (1986–1987) and advisor to the councilor of the State Audit Court of Amazonas (1987). In 1987, he became a public prosecutor in the Public Ministry of the State of Amazonas, where he served as secretary-general from 1989 to 1991. He also worked with the government of the State of Amazonas as the state secretary of Justice (1991–1993), Public Security (1993–1995), and the state comptroller (2004). Promoted to attorney general in 1999, he was elected attorney general of justice three times, fully serving in the terms 1999–2001 and 2001–2003, and partially in the term 2007–2009, resigning in June 2008 due to his appointment as a minister of the Superior Court of Justice (STJ), in a position reserved for a member of the Public Ministry. In 2001, as a prosecutor, Campbell received the Order of Military Merit in the special Officer degree. Appointed following a nomination from his peers in the Public Ministry on a sextuple list and the formation of a tripartite list by the STJ ministers, Mauro Campbell took office as a minister of the superior court on June 17, 2008. He was considered for the position of minister of the Supreme Federal Court (STF) in 2015 and 2017.
